A Newton High School chorus performed the school Alma Mater at the event. The school opened at the beginning of the school year to replace the former Newton High School, which was built in 1974 and is no longer under state funding. The site, which broke ground in August 2011, is located on nearly 118 acres of land on Crowell Road North that also fronts Jack Neely Road.
