KCRB recycles cell phones to benefit Project ReNeWal

CONYERS – Keep Conyers-Rockdale Beautiful (KCRB) is hosting a Cell Phone Recycling Drive with boxes at public locations throughout the month of September.

The month-long, eco-conscious event offers citizens a place to safely discard and recycle cell phones in an effort to prevent hazardous substances such as lead, mercury, cadmium and arsenic from leaking into Rockdale’s water supply. KCRB will accept cell phones regardless of the condition. Residents are encouraged to recycle newer, gently-used cell phones and are asked to remove the SIM card prior to drop off. All cell phones collected will be donated to Project ReNeWal, a non-profit domestic violence intervention program servicing citizens in Rockdale, Newton and Walton counties. The organization provides victims with essential information, resources and support to transition out of violent situations into independent living. Drop boxes will be available for citizens to discard unwanted cell phones beginning Sept. 1 at the following locations:

• Board of Commissioners Office, 962 Milstead Ave.;

• County Administration & Services Building, 958 Milstead Ave.;

• Tax Commissioner’s Office, 969 Pine St.;

• Sheriff’s Office – Administrative Building, 911 Chambers Drive;

• Any Rockdale County Fire Station

• Conyers-Rockdale Chamber of Commerce, 936 Green St., Suite 100;

• City of Conyers Police Department, 1194 Scott St.;

• Rockdale Career Academy, 1064 Culpepper Drive;

• Heritage High School, 2400 Granade Road

• Rockdale County High School, 1174 Bulldog Circle;

• Salem High School, 3551 Underwood Road;

• Bank of North Georgia – Parker Road Office, 1981 Ga. Highway 138 SE;

• Bank of North Georgia-Salem Road Office, 3307 Salem Road;

The Keep Conyers-Rockdale Beautiful (KCRB) Advisory Council is dedicated to educating the public about the importance of litter prevention, beautification, waste minimization and the benefits of improved livability.
