ATHENS — The Eastside cross country boys team teams finished their first meet in the middle of the pack of the Boys Varsity Division in the Ninth Annual NEGA Cross County Championship meet at Athens Christian on Saturday.
Eastside junior Taylor Jones finished in the top quarter as an individual while the team was in the bottom.
Jones came in 34th overall with a time of 24 minutes, 54.93 seconds with the team coming in 21st place out of 24 teams.
Coming in behind Jones were Alexandra Chandler (25:41.02) followed by Jones Madison (29:41.92), Delany Murphy (30:09.98) and Ashley Crawford (30:30.70).
Also running were Taylor Betchler (30:36.36) and Allison Farrill (31:28.53).
Athens Christian was the top girls team with 83 points followed by Jefferson with 115. The Lady Eagles finished the meet with 498 points in the Girls Varsity Division.
Winning individual medalist was sophomore Audrey Honiotes of Hart County. Honiotes crossed the finish line in a time of 20:08.82.
The Eastside boys had a good run coming in the middle of the pack finishing in 18th place out of 29 teams with 489 points.
Etowah ran away with the team score getting a low of 48 points. Coming in second with 124 points was Jefferson.
Crossing the line first for the Eagles was junior Devin Herring finishing 76th overall with a time of 20:45.11. Trailing seven seconds back coming in 79th overall was junior Garrett Nix.
Also running for the Eastside boys were junior Tyler Banks (21:13.72), senior Jacob Alwes (21:31.86), freshman Matthew Tewsbury (21:42.34), junior Logan Jepsen (21:57.06) and junior Matthew Bass (22:20.97).
Winning the Boys Varsity Division was Evans’ Justin Weeger with a time of 17:14:78.
Eastside’s will run again on Sept. 14 at the Winder-Barrow Invitational.
