Chachi, Roxy are both seeking new homes

This sweetie-pie is looking for you. He was found as a stray and has been dubbed Chachi. A tricolor Chihuahua, he only weighs about 5 pounds and is scared of the noise and size of the shelter. He loves to cuddle and should be with a family of adults or older children. He’s had shots and been wormed and is longing for the security of a loving home and someone to hold him tight. He can be rescued and adopted at Newton County Animal Shelter, located at 210 Lower River Road in Covington. The shelter usually has between 20 to 30 dogs and an equal number of cats eligible for adoption. The adoption fee for a dog or puppy is $25 and $10 for a cat or kitten. Spaying/neutering is mandatory for all animals. The shelter is open from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. The phone number is 770-786-9514. Anyone who has lost a pet is urged to go to the center and bring a photo of the missing animal.

Roxy is only 10-weeks old and was found wandering all alone, but she’s headed for bigger and better things. Shelter workers estimate she’ll weigh between 50 to 60 pounds as an adult and believe her to be a Hound/Shepherd/Rottweiler-mix. She’ll need a family with a yard and plenty of room to run around in. But the most important thing she needs is lots of love. She’s up-to-date on her shots and ready to work on her housebreaking skills. She can be rescued and adopted at Rockdale County Animal Care and Control Shelter at 1506 Rockbridge Road in Conyers. At the Rockdale shelter adoption fees for dogs are $30 and $20 for cats. Spaying or neutering is required for adoption. The shelter is open from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Monday through Friday. The phone number is 770-278-8403.

Questions to ask before adopting a pet:

• Can I make a long-term commitment to this pet?

• Will I be able to spend enough time with a new pet?

• Am I prepared for the cost a new pet will bring?

• Which pet is right for my home and my family?
