Social Circle traffic stop leads to drug arrests

COVINGTON — Social Circle police officers arrested three Walton County residents as a result of a traffic stop in the early morning hours Thursday, charging them with drug violations.

The three suspects, who were each charged with violation of the Georgia Controlled Substance Act, were Marion Scott Laseter, 49, of 100 Church St., Monroe; Steve Leon Aldridge, 43, of 1220 Old Monroe-Madison Highway, Monroe; and Avie Ann Winter, 32, of 4340 Laboon Cemetery Road, Good Hope.

According to Social Circle Department of Public Safety Chief Terry Sosebee, the traffic stop was made on North Cherokee Road around midnight on Wednesday, Aug. 7, when an officer noticed a 2005 Chevrolet 1500 pickup speeding.

Sosebee said the officer became suspicious and located drugs in the vehicle and on the person of one or more of the suspects. Drugs confiscated included 13 grams of methamphetamine and five units of Lortab. Warrants were taken for possession with intent to distribute the methamphetamine, and the investigation is ongoing, Sosebee said.
