CONYERS — The physician in charge of the Rockdale Medical Center Comprehensive Hyperbaric & Wound Healing Center and his wife were killed Sunday in a plane crash in south Georgia.
According to published reports, Dr. Sid Shah, 58, and his wife, Shama Gamkhar, were returning to Lawrenceville from Fernandina Beach, Fla., when their small plane went down near Alma, about 70 miles northwest of Brunswick.
In a message posted on the hospital's Facebook page Monday, Dr. Shah was remembered as a well-loved physician.
"The Rockdale Medical Center family is deeply saddened to learn of the tragic loss of Dr. Sid Shah and his wife, Shama Gamkhar …," the Facebook post stated. "Dr. Shah was an extraordinary physician and was well-respected and loved by his peers, his staff and his patients. He was an integral member of the Rockdale Medical Center medical staff. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers are with his family during this very difficult time. We will do whatever we can to offer them our support."
Shah and Gamkhar, residents of Tucker, were reportedly aboard a Hawker Beechcraft A36 that crashed Sunday afternoon into a stand of trees.
