Ayanna Habeel had a good showing at a prestigious national golf tournament recently.
Habeel, a Conyers native who will attend Edwards Middle School in the fall, finished tied for 13th in the girls 10-12 division at the Optimist International Junior Championship in Palm Beach Gardens, Fla.
During the three-round tournament that included 38 amateur golfers from all over the world, Habeel had her best performance when she shot a 77 in the second round. She had an 83 in the first round and an 81 in the third round for a total of 241, which was 24 strokes behind winner Ela Anacona of Buenos Aires.
Habeel was the only golfer from the state of Georgia in the field and finished tied with two other golfers — Laura Edmonds of Del Viso, Buenos Aries and Anika Veintemilla of Guayaquil, Ecudaor.
“It was fun competing with girls from all over the world that love playing the game of golf and seeing my hard work pay off on the golf course,” Habeel said.
