CONYERS -- Ten local track and field athletes from the Rockdale Striders are headed to the parks and recreation state meet after standout performances at the district level.
The Striders, based out of Rockdale County, placed in the top 3 in a number of events at the Georgia Recreation and Parks Association District Meet April 20, led by 13-year old Jallah Galimah.
Galimah won both the 800 and 1,600 meters at the district meet, while 9-year-old Sydney Bunkley was champion in the 50 and standing long jump, 12-year-old Jaylen Banner and 13-year-old Rebekah Crumbley won the softball throw in their respective age group and 7-year-old Cynia Hines won the 50.
The Striders got second-place finishes from 12-year-old Reece Burton (800), 11-year-old Aliyah Williams (standing long jump), and third-place finishes out of 11-year-olds Patrick Murray (400) and Summer Holtz (400), and Bunkley in the 100 meters.
The state meet will take place May 3-4 in Augusta.
