COVINGTON -- You have the chance to walk the red carpet this week.
The Newton College and Career Academy will hold its second annual film festival on Thursday. The red carpet will begin at 6 p.m., and the film festival will last from 6:30 to 8 p.m.
This year's theme is "Bringing a book/story to life."
The students' Top 4 short films will be shown at the festival, as well as their Top 4 commercials, Top 4 public service announcements and clips of music videos.
"We are very excited about the opportunity for the associates to showcase the results of their hard work. I am always amazed at the creativity and skill level of our associates," said James Woodard, CEO of NCCA.
Verda Watson, instructor for the broadcast video production program at NCCA, said friends of the students and other teens, parents and community members will enjoy this event. Most films are PG-13 because of some subject content like teenage pregnancy.
The event also will feature a panel of TV and film industry guest judges, as well as a meet and greet reception with students, staff and guest judges. Additionally, awards will be given to People's Choice Best Short Film, Industry Choice Best Short Film, Best Commercial, Best PSA, Best Music Video, Best Actor in a Short Film and Best Actress in a Short Film.
The event costs $3 for adults and $1 for students. Money will support the SkillsUSA club and future broadcasting students in competitions, activities and field trips.
