CONYERS -- Coming into the 2013 season, the Rockdale baseball team had lost 15 consecutive games to county rival Heritage. Things have changed a bit over the last month.
Tyler Page tossed six innings to pick up the win as the Bulldogs held off Heritage, 6-5 to sweep the season series.
Rockdale (14-11) won its final five games to close the regular season and will carry that winning streak into next weekend's Class AAAAAA first round state playoff series against East Coweta.
"It's exciting for the kids," said Rockdale coach Justin Arrington, whose team won 7-6 over Heritage March 27. "A lot of them grow up playing together on the (Rockdale) Rhinos and they get to high school and basically split in half, some of them go to Heritage, some of them go here. It's good for them, they are amped up to play (Heritage, and) they are really excited."
J.D. Kirkman picked up the save for Rockdale, which has averaged more than 10 runs per game during the winning streak. Now the No. 4-seed Bulldogs will travel to Coweta County to take on the Region 5 champion Indians, who have lost just twice in 26 games.
"(Rockdale has) been working hard, and they're starting to see their work pay off," Arrington said. "It's about getting hot at the right time, hopefully it carries on into the playoffs."
