Stockbridge woman faces charges in 12-year-old pedestrian's death

COVINGTON -- A Stockbridge woman faces homicide by motor vehicle and improper lane usage charges in connection with the 2012 death of pedestrian Lynneah Browning.

Charnelle Ann Martin-Gillard, 35, of 152 Barrington Parkway, was arrested Monday by Newton County authorities. She was driving on Ga. Highway 81 in the early morning hours of Oct. 24, when she struck and killed Browning, who was 12 at the time.

"The pedestrian was traveling north on Ga. 81 when the vehicle, traveling north on Ga. 81, drifted across the northbound line and struck the pedestrian. The pedestrian died at the scene," said Georgia Department of Public Safety spokesman Franka Young.

The Georgia State Patrol's investigation into the crash, which occurred at 7 a.m., revealed that the young girl was home from school due to a doctor's appointment at 11:30 that morning. When her father returned home from work to take her to the doctor, he found that she was missing.

He called 911 to report that she was missing, and it was later that it was discovered that she had been the victim of the crash which occurred about 2.5 miles from her home.
