Rosco is an 8-week-old baby and is ready to make his way in the world. All he needs is a family to love and he's set. He's a Lab-mix and will probably weigh about 40 pounds as an adult. He's had his shots, been wormed and is looking forward to the future. He can be rescued and adopted at Newton County Animal Shelter, located at 210 Lower River Road in Covington. The shelter usually has between 20 to 30 dogs and an equal number of cats eligible for adoption. The adoption fee for a dog or puppy is $25 and $10 for a cat or kitten. Spaying/neutering is mandatory for all animals. The shelter is open from 11 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Monday through Friday and from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturdays. The phone number is 770-786-9514. Anyone who has lost a pet is urged to go to the center and bring a photo of the missing animal.

Questions to ask before adopting a pet:

-- Can I make a long-term commitment to this pet?

-- Will I be able to spend enough time with a new pet?

-- Am I prepared for the cost a new pet will bring?

-- Which pet is right for my home and my family?
