Free fishing event set for Saturday

COVINGTON -- Looking for a fun, free activity for your child to do this weekend? The Georgia FFA-FCCLA Center may have just the thing.

The FFA-FCCLA Center off Ga. Hwy. 36 will host a free kids fishing event at 8:30 a.m. Saturday at the Hayes-Outz Outdoor Education Center on site, stocked with catfish, bass and bream.

Kids ages 5 to 16 are invited to participate, so long as they are under the supervision of a parent or guardian. Younger kids won't be turned away, as long as they are accompanied by a parent, said Leroy Bagley, educational program specialist at the FFA-FCCLA Center.

Kids will need to bring their own equipment, but bait will be provided. Prizes will be awarded in various age categories for most fish caught and biggest fish.

A hot dog lunch will be served at noon.

Bagley said the event has drawn between 30 and 70 participants in the past.

Kids who've never fished before are welcome to attend and staff can provide instructions. Those who plan to attend should RSVP to Bagley at 770-786-6926 ext. 8 or LBagley@GaAgEd.org.
