Tickets still available for Newton Medical Center gala

COVINGTON -- The Newton Medical Center Auxiliary is planning its most elegant party yet with an "Evening in the Mystic Garden" gala fund-raiser set for Saturday.

The event will be held this year at Twelve Oaks Bed and Breakfast on Monticello Street and will feature exquisite food, a live band, dancing and an auction of desirable items. Funds raised from the event will go towards continued quality services at Newton Medical Center, according to Martha Taylor, director of Volunteer Services at NMC.

"This is the biggest fundraiser for the Auxiliary of the year," said Auxiliary member and chair for the event Beth Scarborough. "We do golf tournaments, jewelry sales and other things, but this is certainly our biggest event."

Scarborough said the Auxiliary strives to make the annual gala a memorable event for Newton Countians.

"There is no other gala party that comes anywhere close to this, as far as planning, the number of people involved and the elegance of the event," she said. "We try to make this the best party in Newton County."

Scarborough stressed that it's not too late for those who might want to become a sponsor for the event and sponsorships are available for donations ranging from $10,000 to $500. Individual tickets are on sale for $100 each.

"We believe we'll have well over 300 people at the event and at some point we will reach a capacity," she said, adding that they will endeavor to make room for any who wish to attend. "Certainly anybody is welcome if they want to buy a ticket and come."

Gifts donated for the auction include private parties, family vacations, outdoor events as well as objects of art, photography, pampering packages, golf memberships and more. Buyers will be billed for their purchases or credit cards will be taken at the table. Organizers stress that this will be done to avoid long check-out lines and to allow plenty of time to enjoy the dancing and music.

Organizers are excited about the locale for this year's gala.

"We especially thank Nicole Green for opening up Twelve Oaks Bed and Breakfast and its grounds as a venue this year," said Taylor. "The location is just fantastic and the guests will be blown away by the renovations.
