Smith, Garrett Earn Spots on All-PBC Team

PINE MOUNTAIN -- The Peach Belt Conference announced its annual year-end awards for men's golf Friday night, with Georgia College golfers Taylor Smith (Mansfield) and Patrick Garrett (Kennesaw) taking slots on the All-PBC teams.

Smith, an Eastside graduate, earned his second All-PBC nod, his first time taking a spot on the first team. He has posted a 73.3 stroke average this season, tied for second in the PBC. Smith also has two top-10 finishes among his eight starts, with his best finish coming at the 2013 Southeastern Intercollegiate, where he came in fifth place.

Garrett picked up all-conference honors for the third time in his career by earning a second-team spot. He owns a single top-five finish this season and a 74.4 stroke average.

After the first two rounds at the PBC Tournament at Callaway Gardens, the Bobcats are in fifth place with a team score of 594. Pacing the team scores are South Carolina-Aiken (582) followed by Columbus State and Georgia Southwestern with an overall score of 589, and Armstromg Atlantic (591).

Leading the GCSU squad are Brain Fox (73-73 -- 146), Smith (75-75 -- 150) and Victor Monte (75-75 -- 150). Fox tied it for 10th overall with Smith and Monte tied for 35th.

Smith and the Georgia College team will try to improve their standing when the final two rounds are played today.
