Scrapbook: Huckaby chosen as Georgia’s Outstanding American History Teacher for 2013

The Georgia Society of The Colonial Dames of the 17th Century recently held their state conference in Macon and chose local educator Darrell Huckaby as Georgia’s Outstanding American History Teacher for 2013. Huckaby, who recently retired from teaching U.S. history at Heritage High School, worked as a classroom educator for 39 years. He is also a published author of more than 11 books, columnist for the Citizen newspaper and humorist. He currently leads monthly programs for adults on American history. Huckaby was chosen for the honor by a committee based on achievements inside and outside the classroom, recommendations by his peers and letters of support from students. Huckaby was sponsored by the Mary Brown Tinkham Chapter, Colonial Dames of the 17th Century of Conyers. Shown here are, from left, Gwen Martin, Fran Passmore, Sara Frances Hall, Chapter President Dianne Passmore, Camille Baxter, Darrell Huckaby, Becky Rostron and Carol Buhler.
