COVINGTON -- The 2013 Fuzz Run sponsored by the Covington Police Department is already in the planning stages and organizers are asking the community to send them old photos of previous runs.
"We'd love to have a great collage of photos to use during the race and especially any pictures of the first year will be greatly appreciated," said CPD Public Information Officer Capt. Ken Malcom.
This year's event, set for Saturday, Sept. 14, will mark the 30th Fuzz Run the agency has sponsored. In 1984 there were approximately 200 runners, while last year there were close to 2,500. It is hoped even more runners will participate in the 30th annual Fuzz Run which Malcom said will have some surprises in store for participants.
This year, as always, funds raised during the event will go to the Police Who Care Fund which is used to assist local officers and their family members with medical expenses due to illness; families of officers killed in the line of duty throughout the state; the Shop with a Cop Christmas project for the underprivileged; and various non-profit organizations.
Malcom said they are hoping someone has photos to share of that first year -- 1984 -- and would like to have any others that the public would care to send them.
The photos can be posted on the Fuzz Run Facebook page; emailed to Malcom at Ken.Malcom@covingtonpolice.com; or they can be dropped by the station at 1143 Oak St. Malcom can be reached at 770-385-2126.
