GPC Newton to celebrate Earth Day

COVINGTON -- Georgia Perimeter College wants residents to learn ways to make their lives better and care for Mother Earth.

GPC's Newton Campus will hold an Earth Day celebration from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. today. Earth Day is Monday.

At the event will be local exhibitors, including beekeeper John Newham; Johnston Family Farms; Keep Walton Beautiful/Walton Recycles and Keep Covington/Newton Beautiful. Visitors also are encouraged to check out the new electric Chevy Volt from Ginn Motor Company.

A recycling collection station will be set up for small electronics, cell phones, eyeglasses, batteries, plastic grocery bags and even used greeting cards.

Refreshments will be served.

The event, which is sponsored by the GPC Newton Campus Sustainability Committee, the Newton Campus Earth Club, the International Advisory Council and the Honors Society, is free and open to the community.

The Georgia Perimeter College Newton Campus is located at 239 Cedar Lane, off Ga. Highway 11 in Covington.
