COVINGTON - The Newton County Community Band is proclaiming the arrival of spring with its annual Spring Concert, scheduled for 7:30 p.m., Monday at Eastside High School Auditorium.
Selections will include "As Summer Was Just Beginning" by Larry Daehn; "Festival Coronation March" by Tchaikovsky; "Titus Overture" by Mozart; "Claire de Lune" by Claude Debussy; and "Whisper Not" by Benny Golson, among others.
The concert was first performed in 1993. "I feel that our music has moved to another level," said Director T.K. Adams. "I think our members feel the same way. We feel we've made a lot of progress."
The band has 60-plus members from a nine-county area, including Newton and Rockdale counties. Concerts are free and open to the general public.
The band boasts members of all ages, from high school students to senior citizens. Rehearsals take place once a month and new members are always welcome.
