Ellwanger ends collegiate career as a winner

COVINGTON -- Former Eastside swimmer Drew Ellwanger finished his college swimming career on a high note for Gardner-Webb at the University of Georgia's Gabrielson Natatorium.

Ellwanger won the Coastal Collegiate Swimming Association conference championship in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 55.68 seconds. As part of the 200-yard medley relay teams, Ellwanger, who swam the breaststroke leg of the race, was part of another conference championship. The Gardner-Webb University relay team set a school and conference record in a NCAA Championship Consideration with a time of 1:29.32.

In his career for the GWU Bulldogs, Ellwanger was named the all-conference swimmer in the breaststroke four times, winning the conference title with a pair of conference championships as a junior and a senior. He placed third as a freshman before winning second place as a sophomore.

Ellwanger was named an all-conference swimmer 10 times over his four years of swimming for Gardner-Webb. He also holds 4 school records, two pool records and one conference record.Ellwanger was a 2009 High School All-American swimmer at Eastside in the 100 breaststroke.
