Newton Explorers attend Winterfest

The Newton County Sheriff's Office Explorer Post 2010 recently participated in the 2013 Winterfest held in Gatlinburg, Tenn., along with more than 3,600 other Explorers from 13 states. In addition to learning more about the Explorer program, members of the post competed in four events which included Report Writing, Trouble Unknown, Felony Traffic Stop and DUI Traffic Stop. There were 60 other Explorer posts competing in each event and the NCSO Post 2010 placed 13th in Felony Traffic Stops and 11th in DUI Traffic Stops. The Explorers program is for youngsters ages 14 to 21 who are interested in learning about law enforcement as a career. The NCSO Explorer Post meets every Thursday at 5:45 p.m. at the NCSO headquarters on Alcovy Road. Fundraisers are set to be held in the upcoming months and community participation would be appreciated.
