COVINGTON — State Rep. Pam Dickerson, of the 113th District, is hosting a town hall meeting Saturday.
The event will take place from 9 to 10:30 a.m. at the Newton County Historic Courthouse located at 1124 Clark St.
Dickerson said she will give a legislative update on this year’s General Assembly session.
In particular, Dickerson said she will highlight two bills that did not pass: One that would have banned guns in churches and on college campuses and another that would allow public schools to change to charter schools with a vote of 50 percent plus one of whoever attended the meeting where the matter was proposed. The public will also be allowed to ask questions.
Dickerson, who represents portions of Newton and Rockdale, said she will be hosting similar meetings throughout the district through the summer to keep the public informed of what’s happening at the General Assembly.
“Just because some of those bills did not pass doesn’t mean they will not come up next year for the next session, and they can be aware of what is happening,” she said.
Dickerson also urged her constituents to attend a May 2 Legislative Breakfast hosted by the Conyers-Rockdale Chamber of Commerce. The event takes place from 7:30 to 9:30 a.m. at Rockdale Medical Center, East Tower, 1412 Milstead Ave. The cost is $12 per person and tickets can be purchased online at www.conyers-rockdale.com.
