COVINGTON -- Employees with Riverside Nursing Home at 5100 West St. called for help from the Covington Police around 5:30 a.m. Friday.
According to a CPD incident report, employees told officers that two men had made entry into room 200 through an unlocked window and that they were unsure if they were still inside the building.
Officers set up a perimeter around the outside of the facility and then went room to room checking to see if they could locate the men, but were unsuccessful.
A resident reported that he was awakened by the sound of someone going through his nightstand. He initially thought it was a member of the nursing staff, but when he looked at the individual he saw that it was an unknown male and he asked him what he was doing, the report states. The man then walked out into the hall where he was joined by a second unknown male who came from another room, possibly carrying a long gun. Both men were wearing bandanas and one may have had a shaggy beard, according to the witness. The two then left, walking down the hall.
Items belonging to the resident were found on the window sill, as well as an unknown black glove that was entered into evidence. Officers reported finding black dirt inside the victim's room.
