Are we willing to gamble on another term for Obama?
My spouse and I had cabin fever. We needed to slip out of the house for one of those "blowing-off-the-stink" local trips. So, we drove over to the Morrow area to visit one of the few remaining bookstores in our vicinity.
We had many book choices, but being an election year, we found ourselves seeking reading materials that might enlighten us further in our choice of candidates. We left the store with some new books, including "Fool Me Twice," "The Amateur," and "Obama's America."
In reading our selections, we found out more about our president than expected. The authors told us President Obama was weakening our nation. In spite of his fancy speeches, he was actually anti-American seeking to downsize us, reduce our world dominance and remake us. He is jettisoning our nuclear stockpile and telling Russian President Medvedev, "this is my last election. After my election, I have more flexibility" to reduce missiles. Under Obama's watch we have record unemployment and more home foreclosures. Iran rapidly nears nuclearization.
The book "Obama's America" formed the basis for the documentary "2016 -- Obama's America," so naturally we went to see it at a local theater. Once we got through all of the previews, we found the film a good historical documentary worth seeing. It also was very informative.
What President Obama intends to do should he be re-elected and gain the flexibility he seeks may turn out to be a further assault on our country. What will happen to us if our military is gutted, our missiles reduced, more amnesty is granted to immigrants and we are transformed into a socialist state?
Author Edward Klein in "The Amateur" tells us President Obama is one of the worst presidents we ever had and is in revolt against American values. His foreign policy is a disaster and he is wrecking our country. Today we are not better off than we were four years ago. Author Klein feels that under President Obama, we are in debt, have greater unemployment and more gridlock. Should Obama gain a second term, it will be because he succeeded in diverting attention from his incompetent leadership.
President Obama does not agree with this bashing. He considers himself a savior, not a wrecker of our country. He feels he is digging himself out of the hole he found himself in when elected and he needs four more years to do it. I do not claim to know what the president thinks about the authors of these books, but he may feel the authors are only seeking to profit from election-year politics.
Of one thing we can be sure: President Obama does have a blueprint for a makeover of our country. We, the people, may not yet know what that plan is. However, on faith, he asks voters for four more years so we can find out. Are we willing to take the gamble?
Apparently some people are supportive. The latest polls, since the Democratic Convention, indicate President Obama has a 5 to 7 point lead over Mitt Romney in some key states. People there feel the incumbent is best able to handle the economy.
This election is a very important one for the U.S. and for our future. It will be beneficial if each of us spends extra time informing ourselves about the issues and learning which leader can bring us solutions to our problems. When we go to the polls, cross your fingers and pray that voters make the best decision.
