COVINGTON -- Newton County students will get a break from school this month.
All Newton County public schools will release students early on Friday for teacher professional learning activities.
Elementary students will be dismissed at 11:15 a.m., high school students will be released at 12:15 p.m. and middle school students are scheduled to depart at 1:15 p.m.
Lunch will be served before students are dismissed, and all students who ride school buses home in the afternoons will be transported to their normal bus stops, according to the Newton County School System.
The following week will be a fall break for students and school staff members.
All Newton County Schools will be closed from Sept. 24 - 28. The Newton County Board of Education offices on Newton Drive will be open for business Monday through Wednesday of that week but closed on Thursday and Friday.
Students will get another early release day on Oct. 19 for parent conferences and then Nov. 16 for professional learning. The next long break for students and staff is scheduled for Nov. 19 through 23 for a Thanksgiving holiday break.
