RIVERDALE -- It was another difficult night for the Rockdale football team Friday as the Bulldogs fell 42-0 to Drew at Southern Crescent Stadium.
"Not well," first-year Rockdale coach Venson Elder said of how things went Friday. "Too many turnovers, penalties, we didn't play well on special teams. We went with a different group on special teams, and that backfired on us, I'll take full responsibility for that. We're still trying to find ourselves on offense ... right now we don't have an indentity on offense (and) we're not ready to win."
Rockdale, which has scored just 14 points in the season's first three weeks, dropped its 12th consecutive game. The last Bulldogs win, a 17-13 triumph over Winder-Barrow, came on opening night a year ago.
Despite the lopsided loss in the first-ever meeting between the schools, Elder was pleased with the play of several players, including linebacker Kentavious Preston, and tackles Julian McKnight and Robert McCray.
"(Preston) gave it all he had, he left it out on the field ... played his tail off tonight," Elder said. "Robert McCray played well at defensive tackle, Julian McKnight, he played well. Those are the things we did well."
Rockdale will try to end its long losing streak when Langston Hughes travels to Reid Stadium on Sept. 21.
