Fourth grade classes at East Newton Elementary recently enjoyed a special visit. Frank Garner and Theo Ramakers, solar system ambassadors for NASA, visited classes and showed students footage of the lunar landings by Neil Armstrong and other astronauts during the 1960s and 1970s. Students also learned about the solar system and viewed solar flares through special telescopes. Pictured, Ray Holt and Cole Rowland watch as Cameron Callaway observes solar flares with the help of Ramakers. Julie Thompson's fourth-grade class at the school also recently visited the Jon Woods astronomy field at Charlie Elliott for a night of stargazing with the Atlanta Astronomy Club. Students and their families viewed the stars and planets while local astronomers pointed out the features of the moon.
