Alcovy High to host PROBE College Fair

COVINGTON -- The annual PROBE College Fair tour begins next week, and Newton County will be one of the stops this month.

The fair is scheduled to stop at Alcovy High School from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday and set up in the school commons area.

All Newton County School System high school students are invited to attend.

PROBE is the organized college fair tour that attracts representatives from nonprofit educational institutions to shopping malls, civic centers and high schools throughout the state.

The fair is free and open to high school students and their families. This year's nine-week fall tour consists of 58 college fairs.

Approximately 70 colleges and technical colleges will be represented at this year's Newton County PROBE Fair.

"We encourage high school parents and students to attend the PROBE College Fair," said Timica Parker, lead counselor for Alcovy High School. "This is an excellent opportunity for students and parents to see the many options available to them in terms of colleges, programs of study, and financial aid."

In the past, representatives from colleges like Georgia State University, the University of Georgia, the Georgia Institute of Technology and other schools around the state and southeast attended the fair.

During the PROBE fair, students and parents will have the opportunity to speak with college representatives on topics such as financial aid, housing, programs of study, admissions requirements, scholarships and campus life.

"It is important for Georgia's youth to have access to the best resources when looking to further their education after high school," said Bill Smith, executive director of PROBE. "The PROBE College Fair provides a single location for students and their families to learn about a variety of colleges and universities. This makes it easier for students to find a school that meets their needs."

Students must register ahead of time to attend the fair by visiting the website www.gotocollegefairs.com and clicking "register now."
