Newton Citizen
In March 2012, Newton County Sheriff Ezell Brown shared with the citizens of Newton County his decision to seek re-election. At that time, he pledged to run with honesty and integrity and to respect the code of ethics associated with his office. From Day One, that is exactly what he has done. His opponent, on the other hand, has raised unwarranted allegations against his competency to lead, as well as the qualifications of the men and women serving in the Newton County Sheriff's Office. In spite of the repeated attacks, he has continued to manage the affairs of the Newton County Sheriff's Office, as mandated by his office.
Today, I ask where did we get so far off base? When did Newton County become a reflection of the larger political arena? Why are the citizens not receiving information needed to make one of the most important decisions faced in our community?
