Personnel with the Covington Police Department, from left to right, Records Custodian Cheryl Vaughn, Officer Allan Seebaran, Capt. Philip Bradford and Sgt. Chuck Groover practice their candy-giving skills as 3-year-old trick-or-treater Sadie Clare Cook waits to see her plastic pumpkin filled to the rim. They are preparing for the Safer Covington Action Network's Safe Halloweeen Trick or Treat event to be held on the Square on Halloween night from 5:30 to 8 p.m. The event is hosted by the public safety community, including Covington/Newton County 911 Center, Covington Fire Department, Covington Police Deartment, Porterdale Police Department, Porterdale Fire Department and Newton Medical Center's emergency medical services. Rumor has it that more than 500 pounds of candy will be given away during the free party which promises to be bigger and better than last year's event. - Staff photos by Sue Ann Kuhn-Smith
