COVINGTON -- The Newton County Sheriff's Office and the Covington Probation Office have announced they will sponsor the sixth annual Halloween Shut-In on Wednesday from 6 to 10 p.m.
Sex offenders who are on parole and probation are required to report to this mandatory event designed to ensure children are safe during trick-or-treat activities, according to a press release from the NCSO.
The agenda for the evening will include guest speakers and an information session. New laws will be reviewed and the sex offenders will have the opportunity to ask questions. They are required to stay for the entire event, the press release states.
Additionally, Sheriff Ezell Brown asks that citizens report any suspicious or criminal activity immediately by calling 911.

Does this include all the 18 year-olds that had sex with their 16 year old girlfriends and are now deemed a pervert or is this the kiddy pervs? just wondering...

If one convicted and classified a sex offender they are simply that and need to show up for this event. Now you can stop wondering.

KimberlyD, People are considered an adult at 18 and an 18 year old should not be trapping a 16 year old, we have laws against this and any 18 year old should know this. They are not a pervert or a kiddy perve they are ignorant 18 year olds, we all were ignorant at that age. The law is the law so tell your 18 year olds, I told all three of my kids when they were 18.

Just add to Will's comment in Georgia a 17 year old can be prosecuted in adult court for criminal acts.

John: At 17 you are an adult for all crimes in the state of Ga, however, you can still be charged in the juvenile court with runaway and unruly (not following your parents rules).
To answer the previous comments, there is a Romeo and Juliet law on the books in the state that reduces what was once a Felony down to a Misdemeanor offense. Why don't you guys check out the Sheriff's Department website and check to see who the sex offenders are and where they live in the County. That is one of the functions on the website and before you ask, no, I am not employed by the NCSO. I am just a smart parent.
