Covington man robbed at knifepoint at Washington Street residence

COVINGTON -- A Covington man was robbed at knifepoint as he left the house of a friend at 4152 Washington St. Tuesday afternoon. Two men have been arrested and charged in connection with the incident, according to the Covington Police Department.

Jamarcus Moody, 19, of 3147 Hendrix Circle and Rodney Smith, 20, of 3138 Hendrix Circle, face robbery charges after they allegedly pulled a knife and demanded money from the victim.

The victim told CPD detectives that the men came to his friend's home and were walking in and out and having conversations with the woman he was visiting. As the victim was leaving around 3:30 p.m. and on the front porch, the two approached him and asked for change for a $50 bill.

"He said he didn't have any money and that's when one of the men pulled a knife and demanded money from the victim," said CPD Public Information Officer Ken Malcom. "One of the men grabbed him around the neck and told the one with the knife to "stick him."

Malcom said the victim told detectives as he began struggling with the pair, they decided to hand off the knife.

"When they were in the process of transferring the knife, he was able to knock it out of one subject's hand and drag himself and the subject who was hanging onto him off the porch and towards the road," Malcom said. "Once at the sidewalk, he broke free and the two suspects ran off toward Carroll Street.

Sometime during the struggle, one of the men was able to take the victim's wallet which contained an undetermined amount of cash.

Detectives interviewed the victim and witnesses and were able to determine the identity of Moody and Smith and when they went to their homes they found one in the basement and one in the crawl space of their respective homes.

"They both admitted to involvement in the robbery, Malcom said, adding that the case was wrapped up in about an hour. "It was good detective work by (Brent) Feusting and (Jeff) Bruno."

"An undetermined amount of cash"? I can tell you that in this economy, I know exactly how much cash I have in my wallet or I could figure it out in about two seconds.

I was shocked to hear of this happening on Washington Street, this area is one of the better areas of town. All of the hard working people in this area should start a neighborhood watch program to stop this type of violence.

"they found one in the basement and one in the crawl space of their respective homes." Which is exactly where cockroaches are usually found.
