Newton's Festival of Trees to benefit Miracle League

COVINGTON -- This year's Festival of Trees in downtown Covington will benefit Miracle League of Newton County. Donations of Christmas trees and wreaths are now being accepted for the silent auction that will take place from mid-November through early December at the former site of Mayfields on the Square downtown.

Decorated Christmas trees, wreaths and mantel decorations of every shape, size and variety are being accepted to be auctioned off, with proceeds going to Miracle League. Businesses and organizations may decorate the items in a theme, for example, the Miracle League will have a tree decorated with baseball paraphernalia. Businesses may incorporate products or services into their theme.

Anyone interested in donating should email festivaloftrees.newton@gmail.com or visit www.facebook.com/festivaloftreesnewtoncounty or www.newtonrecreation.com to register by Nov. 1.

The festival kicks off at 5 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 15, the same night of the annual lighting of the tree and holiday festivities in downtown Covington.

Only artificial trees and wreaths are accepted. Trees must be 4 to 8 feet high and all must have a sturdy stand, tree skirt and lights. Extension cords should be provided with trees. Trees should not contain anything edible or perishable. All items on the tree or wreath should be donated. Trees must be ready for display by 5 p.m. Nov. 10.
