The Newton County Fire Service is recognizing Fire Safety Week by installing free smoke alarms to those who need them. Here, Firefighter Steve Raulerson rings the doorbell of a home in Oxford as he and driver/engineer Chris Barnes go door-to-door checking to see if new smoke alarms are needed. The NCFS is also doing hazard checks for homeowners and reminding them to have an escape plan in case of fire that includes "2 Ways Out," this year's Fire Safety Week theme. - Staff photos by Sue Ann Kuhn-Smith
