Winder — A week ago, the Heritage football team lost its first game to Gainesville. Safe to say, the Patriots had little trouble bouncing back Friday. Obe Fortune had a pair of touchdowns to lead Heritage to a 37-12 win over Winder-Barrow at W. Clair Harris Stadium.
“We needed something like that, we played well,” said Patriots coach Chad Frazier, whose team moved to 5-1 and 2-1 in Region 8-AAAAA. “We didn’t play perfect, still got some things that concern me going into next week. I like the mindset of our kids, they are confident, had some excitement to them.”
Heritage got on the scoreboard in the opening quarter when Tyler Weaver took a direct snap on a fake punt and scored from 50 yards.
The visitors were just getting started.
Fortune scored twice-once on a 40-yard run on a reverse and the second came on a 50-yard hook up with quarterback Ryan Sutton. Dominique Packer and Myron Fears later added rushing touchdowns to pad the lead. Meanwhile, the Heritage defense held its fifth opponent to 12 points or less.
“Defense played pretty well,” said Frazier.
After its two-game road trip, Heritage returns home to Evans Memorial Stadium to host Clarke Central.
“I know (Clarke Central will) be athletic and I know it’s going to be a great, competitive ballgame,” Frazier said. “Being at home is always good.”
