COVINGTON -- Area golfers can help students at Georgia Piedmont Technical College later this month.
The GPTC Foundation is holding its first golf tournament in recent years.
The 2012 GPTC Foundation Golf Tournament is scheduled for Monday, Oct. 15 at Cherokee Run Golf Club on Centennial Olympic Parkway in Conyers.
Shelli Siebert, GPTC event coordinator, said the tournament is an opportunity for people to play golf and learn more about the college while supporting the foundation.
She said the GPTC Foundation provides scholarships for students to attend GPTC and equipment and facility enhancements for current students.
The cost is $100 per golfer, which includes a buffet-style catered lunch provided by Jim 'N Nick's barbecue restaurant at 11:30 a.m. and a reception with heavy hors d'oeuvres after the event.
Registration begins at 11 a.m. that day, and play will begin at 1 p.m. with a shotgun start.
The event also consists of a putting contest and door prizes for $1 each.
A mulligan package is $20 each and sponsorships range from $50 to $5,000 for golf bag, hole, putting green, tent and tournament sponsorships.
Registration is available online at www.gptc.edu or by calling Siebert at 770-633-4202. Any person or business that would like to donate door prizes or are interested in being a sponsor also should contact Siebert.
GPTC, which was recently renamed from DeKalb Technical College, has nine centers of learning in DeKalb, Newton, Rockdale and Morgan counties. It has more than 5,000 students enrolled in diploma or degree programs and more than 9,000 in adult education classes.
