Rams stay unbeaten, win tournament in Danielsville

DANIELSVILLE -- The Newton boys basketball team arrived in Danielsville last weekend having not yet played a regular season game. Tuesday evening, the Rams departed as tournament champions.Rodarius Mitchell scored 14 points and Rashard Cabane added 12 as both made the all-tournament team in helping Newton defeat Hart County 53-41 in the championship of the Northeast Georgia Invitational."It was a good tournament for us, good to get our feet wet," said Rams coach Rick Rasmussen, whose team improved to 2-0. "Got to get ready for some tough games down the road. We got a lot of improvement to make, but we're going to get better."

Mitchell added three assists in the final and averaged 10.5 points in the tournament. Cabane averaged 12 points and six rebounds in the tournament, which included a win last Saturday over Stone Mountain.

"(Cabane) was a real strong leader for us," Rasmussen said.

The Newton girls rebounded from a loss in the tournament opener to cruise past Hart County, 53-30. Janice Washington led the way with 16 points and all-tournament team representative Precious Price added 10 points.
