COVINGTON — A passerby notified the Newton County Sheriff’s Office of a vehicle stopped in the turning lane on Kirkland Road early Thursday morning with a woman “slumped over,” according to NCSO spokesman Lt. Keith Crum.
“The call came in around 5:45 a.m. A passerby stated a pickup was pulled off the side of the road in a turning lane near a subdivision entrance,” Crum said. “The caller stated there was a person inside the truck, slumped over and the door was cracked.”
When deputies arrived they found that the woman was dead. Investigators and emergency medical services were called to the scene as was Newton County Coroner Tommy Davis.
“There was no sign of foul play. The body will go to the GBI crime lab today where an autopsy will be performed,” Crum said.
The woman has been identified as 34-year-old Stacey Renee Stallings.
“Foul play is not suspected, but there is an active death investigation ongoing by the Newton County Coroner’s Office, the NCSO and the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s State Examiner’s Office as to the cause and manner and circumstances of her death,” said Newton County Coroner Tommy Davis.
