School Crime report for Nov. 16, 2012

The Newton County Sheriff's Office provides school resource officers to each high school and middle school in Newton County. The following is a list of reports filed by these officers that have been received this week by the Newton Citizen:

ALCOVY HIGH SCHOOL

An Alcovy High School administrator reported to the school resource officer Monday that a piece of computer equipment had been stolen from one of the computer labs. The following investigation revealed that three students allegedly stole a flat screen computer monitor valued at $199 by placing it in a backpack and leaving the school.

According to NCSO Lt. Keith Crum, the school resource officer identified the suspects by school surveillance video.

Arrested and charged were Diijon Orlandus Wise, 17, of 60 Valley View Drive, who was charged with theft by taking and criminal interference with government property; Karon Rakeem Hamilton, 17, of 45 Charleston Lane, and Trevone Lecene Moore, 18, 35 Walter Way, both of whom were charged with theft by receiving stolen property and criminal interference with government property.

-- The school resource officer reported that he responded to a situation in the boys restroom on G Hall around 8:10 a.m. on Nov. 7 when a student was seen tossing a small plastic bag containing a green leafy substance in the trash. The juvenile student was charged with possession of marijuana less than an ounce.

EASTSIDE HIGH SCHOOL

The school resource officer said on Nov. 7 around 2 p.m. he was called to the principal's office where he found an intoxicated juvenile. The youngster was charged with underage consumption of alcohol.

NEWTON HIGH SCHOOL

On Oct. 29, a student informed the NHS resource officer that his Samsung cell phone valued at $300 was stolen while he was in his first period class.

-- On Nov. 12, an NCSO deputy went to another address to take a report of a theft that occurred at NHS. The student stated that he got up to throw something away during class and when he returned to his desk, his Apple iPod valued at $300 was missing. Information was obtain to enter the item on GCIC.

-- On Nov. 12 around 8:55 a.m., the school resource officer said he was informed of a student who had a strong odor of marijuana about his person. While being searched by an administrator, the student admitted to having the substance in his possession. The juvenile was charged with possession of marijuana less than an ounce.

CHALLENGE CHARTER ACADEMY

A school resource officer was called to Challenge Charter Academy on Nov. 7 to take a report on a theft. A school employee said when she arrived at work around 7:30 a.m. she placed her cell phone on top of her desk and had covered it with some files. Around 3 p.m. she discovered the phone was missing. It is an iPhone4 and valued at $400.

-- On Nov. 13 a woman complained to the school resource officer that between 12:30 and 1 p.m. someone took her cell phone, a black Samsung Galaxy II. She said it was valued at between $300 and $400. Although she made an attempt to locate the phone through her provider, it didn't work and the complainant reasoned that feature must have been turned off by the thief.

Can we donate Alcovy High to Jasper County and redraw the lines. I'm sick of it.

I seriously think that they need a substance abuse counselor down at alcovy this is becoming a serious matter no sarcasim just a thought.
