COVINGTON -- College men's basketball has already started for several former Newton basketball players as they continue to show off their talents at the next level.
Darius Miller (2010), a junior at Point University, recorded a double-double scoring 15 points and bringing down 12 rebounds against the NAIA No. 6 ranked Southern Polytechnic University on Oct. 30 to give the Skyhawks a two-point, 82-80, upset.
Derrick Henry (2011) came up big for Winthrop in their season opener against St. Andrews University (N.C.) scoring 26 points while grabbing six rebounds while going 8-for-14 from the free-throw line. However, the team was not able to maintain that level of play in their second game losing 66-55. Henry led the team in scoring with 15 points going a perfect 5-for-5 from the line while getting six rebounds.
Furman's Stephen Croone (2012), a true freshman, tied a school record with 14 assists in his first start and scoring nine points in the Paladins 90-71 win over Southern Wesleyan on Tuesday.
