Covington man under arrest after allegedly pointing gun at his mother

COVINGTON -- A young man who was reportedly angry with his mother because she made him go to school is under arrest on a charge of aggravated assault after he allegedly pulled a gun on her, according to the Newton County Sheriff's Office.

Jevonterias Deandre Rogers, 18, of 135 Bradley Place was arrested Tuesday afternoon following the incident at his home.

According to the NCSO incident report, the mother said her son got mad at her because she had made him go to school that day. When he got home from school, he found that she had taken the door knob off the door to his room so he could not lock himself in and she said this further fueled his anger.

"He put the door knob back on and when she saw it, she told him to remove it and he refused so she started taking the door knob off again and he got angry again," the report states. "The complainant stated that she turned her back to him while taking the door knob off the second time and when she turned around, he had what she thought was a 9mm handgun pointed at her," the report states, adding that he then told his mother to "back off."

NCSO spokesman Lt. Keith Crum said the woman then left the residence and called deputies to the scene.

When deputies arrived they discovered the young man had also left and they located him at a neighbor's house standing outside with two other young men.

He was arrested and searched, as was his book bag, but the weapon was not discovered until the mother's boyfriend spoke with the young man. He then took deputies to the spot in the woods where he had discarded the gun. It turned out it was not a 9mm handgun, but a BB pistol that looked like one. However, "The mother didn't know it was a BB pistol," Crum said.

The 18-year-old was taken to Newton County Detention Center.

This thug should do some jail time. Where did he learn this thug behavior. It takes a real man to point a pistol at his mom, I wish he would have pointed it at me. This mom is a hero for calling the police and I hope she does not drop the charges. This thug will be trouble down the road, you can bet on it. Mad because mommy said he had to go to school, is he a third grader?

IF the taxpayers are going to pay for his detention, why not send him to Parris Island for a 13 week paid vacation, some real attitude adjustment and a bit of education that he seems to need. He'll still get his 3 hots & a cot.
