COVINGTON -- The Covington Family YMCA's youth basketball program hosts a day at the Atlanta Hawks as part of the Hawks Affiliate Program. Every registered player will receive a ticket to the Hawks vs. Minnesota Timberwolves game on Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jan. 21 at 2 p.m.
"The players grow so much through Y basketball," Jennifer Towns said of youth sports at the Covington Family Y. "I'm very excited to partner with the Hawks to make the kids' experience even greater."
The Covington Family Y's co-ed youth basketball program is tailored for kids ages 4 to 13. Girls and boys grow in skill fundamentals, teamwork, sportsmanship and character. Registration ends Nov. 19. The first 50 kids to register will go on the court during warm-ups at the Jan. 21 game. Hawks rules require these children to be at least 6 years old.
"The Hawks Affiliate Program adds great value to the Y's youth basketball program," Towns said. "The kids see professional players in action, experience the fun of the game and have the opportunity to be on the court at Philips Arena."
Practices begin the week of Dec. 3. Games are Fridays or Saturdays from Jan. 4 to March 9. Program fees are $65 for members and $75 for nonmembers with an annual $35 program membership. Uniform jersey and shorts are $30. Financial assistance is available to those who express an inability to pay for the full cost of the program.
