COVINGTON -- Both Eastside squads just missed out on heading to the Class AAAA cross country meet with a pair of fifth-place finishes in the Region 8-AAAA meet at the Williams Mill Greenspace in Flowery Branch on Wednesday.
The Eastside girls finished with 119 points, six points behind fourth place and final qualifier Lumpkin County, which had 113 points.
Chestatee, which had four of its five runners finish in the top six, won the region championship with 25 points.
Winning the region was Chestatee's Sara Beth English (25:15) with Tori Mullinax coming in a second behind her at 25:16.
Eastside's top runner for the girls was Alexandra Chandler, who came in 13th overall with a time of 25:08. Also scoring for the Eastside girls were Rhodelle Lewis (16 -- 25:20), Taylor Jones (18 -- 25:32), Danysha Lamadieu (30 -- 27:33) and Ansley Jones (42 -- 30:09).
Also going to state representing the region are Lanier (71) and Walnut Grove (92).
In the boys meet, the Eastside team earned 121 with fourth place Lanier, which had the top runner, coming in with 95 points. Winning region as an individual was Ervin Martinez who ran the course in 19:06.
Eastside had three runners in the top 20 with Conner Haler crossing the finish line in 19:47 for 11th place overall followed by Joey Ellwanger (12 -- 19:55) and Kevin Thompson (19 -- 20:26). The rest of the team finished as a group, starting with Dustin Gentis, who finished 39th in 21:45, followed by Adonis Cole (40 -- 21:36), Daniel Mejia (41 -- 21:46) and Garrett Nix (42 -- 21:46).
Winning the team competition with 38 points was Chestatee followed by Johnson, Gainesville (72) and Stephens County (79).
