The Newton County Sheriff's Office provides School Resource Officers to each high school and middle school in Newton County. The following is a list of reports filed by these officers that have been received this week by the Newton Citizen:
ALCOVY HIGH SCHOOL
-- 10-25-12 -- It was reported to Principal Dr. LaQuanda Carpenter that a female student was struck by a vehicle driven by another female student in the student parking lot of Alcovy High School. The incident occurred after school and both students went home and reported the incident to their parents.
NEWTON HIGH SCHOOL
-- 10-29-12 -- A resource officer reported that a student informed him her Apple iPhone valued at $800 was stolen from her bag while she was in class.
-- 10-30-12 -- A resource officer reported that a student said her Texas Instruments calculator valued at $190 was stolen out of her back pack sometime between 8:30 a.m. and 10:08 a.m.
-- 10-30-12 -- A resource officer reported that a student said his purple Doctor Dre Beats headphones valued at $300 were stolen from his book bag on 10-29-12 between the hours of 3:15 p.m. and 4:45 p.m.
-- 10-30-12 -- A resource officer reported a student informed him his eyeglasses valued at $200 were stolen while he was dressing out in the gym around 9 a.m. on 10-29-12.
CHALLENGE CHARTER ACADEMY
-- 10-25-12 -- Around 3:10 p.m. Principal Erinetta Worthy informed a NCSO resource officer that a student was in the office who was found to have been in possession of suspected marijuana. When the resource officer arrived, the parents were at the school and the Juvenile Court had told him to release the juvenile into the custody of his parents. The suspected marijuana was to be tested and if found to be marijuana, the student would be charged with possession of marijuana less than an ounce.
INDIAN CREEK MIDDLE SCHOOL
10-10-12 -- A resource officer was called to the school by the principal and informed she had found a student to be in possession of a multi-tool which contained a 2 -inch knife blade. She requested a juvenile complaint be filed and the student charged with possession of a weapon in a school safety zone.
LIBERTY MIDDLE SCHOOL
10-23-12 -- A student reported to a resource officer that her iPhone S4 in a pink case with rhinestones on it had been stolen during class.
