Murdered Newton County man, 30, found in Baldwin County

COVINGTON -- Baldwin County authorities are looking in this direction after finding a murdered Newton County man whose body had been dumped on a residential street in their jurisdiction.

Thirty-year-old Travin Montez Davis of Covington was found Wednesday morning around 7:15 on a residential street in east Baldwin County by a resident. He had multiple gunshot wounds to his body, according to Baldwin County Sheriff's Office Capt. Brad King.

"At this time we do not believe he was killed there," King said.

He went on to say that a Loganville man who is being held on unrelated charges is being question as a person of interest in the Davis death.

King said at this time, no motive or other details had been ascertained in connection with the homicide, although it is believed Davis had been robbed.

"He had no jewelry, no watch, no wallet, nothing in his pockets," King said.

King said Davis was last sighted Tuesday evening in Newton County as a passenger in a gold 2000 Mercury Sable.

"We have that car and are processing it now," he said.

The Newton County Sheriff's Office has been helping out Baldwin County authorities who are looking into the dead man's background.

"Since the victim is from here, we are assisting them and will continue to do so as long as we are needed," said NCSO spokesman 1st Lt. Mark Mitchell.

Milledgeville is the county seat of Baldwin County.
