CONYERS -- Twelve-year old Isaac Samples displayed his ability, posting the best score amongst local golfers in the one-day Atlanta Junior Golf tournament at Honey Creek.
Samples, who is from Covington, shot a 4-over par 76 in the 18-hole boys 12-under division. His score was good enough for second place. Jordan Rodriguez (Buford) won the division, shooting two shots better than Samples.
Also playing in the division was Landon Farill (Covington), whose 20-over par score was good enough for fourth place.
Eastside's Quin Murphy had high hopes when the day began of winning the 18-hole Open Boys 15-18 division. But his hopes quickly vanished after a 7-over par for the first seven holes. It seemed like he was going to get back on track, finishing the first nine with a birdie-par. But the bogeys returned as he shot the other nine going 4-over par to finish sixth overall with an 82.
Fellow Eastside golfer Matt Mitchell finished tied for 14th with a 20-over 92.
Atlanta's Drew Wagner won the division with an even-par 72.
Playing 18 holes in the boys Club 13-14 division was John Sauer who finished in 14th place with a 48-over par.
Conyers' Joshua Beckman finished in fourth place with a 12-over par 48 playing in the 9-hole Club boys 12-under division.
Posting a 10-over par 46, Conyers' Alexander Goldman finished third in the 9-hole Open Boys 12-under division, and 13-year old Sidney Roule finished tied for ninth with a 22-over par 58 in the 9-hole Club Girls 7-18 division.
Winning the 18-hole divisions were Decatur's Liam Tangum (Club Boys 13-14 -- 83), Johns Creek's Yuki Okamoto (Club Boys 15-18 -- 80) and Buford's Skylar Thompson (Club Girls 7-18 -- 86). Winners of the 9-hole divisions were Marietta's Ethan Gardner (Club Boys 12-under -- 44), Ellenwood's Kameron Wyatt (Club Boys 13-over -- 42), McDonough's Hannah Gasaway (Club Girls 7-18 -- 42), Atlanta's Sam Lape (Open Boys 12-under -- 44) and Atlanta's Griffin Kunkler (Open Boys 13-over -- 42).
