Local fisherman wins second Angler of the Year award

Darrell Anders is the Angler of the Year for the Metro Atlanta Hawg Hunters Bass Club for the second consecutive year. A Newton County Sheriff's Office deputy, Anders has been a member of the Hawg Hunters Bass Club for 14 years and was runner-up for Angler of the Year in 2007 and 2008 before taking home the honor for the first time in 2011. "It's like winning a Super Bowl ring twice," Anders said. "You have 40 or 50 guys gunning for you all year, waiting for you to slip up. Some of these guys have fished these lakes for 30 or 40 years and they are hard to beat." Anders promised he'll attempt a "three-peat" next year. Criteria for the Angler of the Year award includes pounds of fish caught and attendance and participation in club activities and meetings.
