SOCIAL CIRCLE -- The Social Circle City Schools Board of Education has approved Dr. Todd McGhee as its next superintendent.
During a special called board meeting Thursday, the school board approved McGhee from three finalists, which were announced earlier this month.
McGhee currently is principal at Elbert County High School; he had previously been the principal at Social Circle Middle School. He was up against Melinda Ellis, deputy superintendent for Butts County Schools, and Dr. Mikki Garcia, Savannah-Chatham Schools' executive director for middle schools and exceptional children.
Current Social Circle Superintendent Bettye Ray plans to retire in June.
