Adonika Keron Dillon hopes to get permission soon to hang the sign advertising her business, Adonica's Renewal Majestic Spa, located in a one-story brick house at 3601 Hwy. 20 in Conyers, across the street from Honey Creek Plaza.
For Adonika Keron Dillon, the satisfaction she receives from healing people through massage is the main reason she is in the profession. She recalled one gentleman, a construction worker, in such severe back pain that he could not bend over to tie his shoes. After getting massage therapy from her, his discomfort subsided and he was able to work again and provide for his family, said Dillon
"That gratification from seeing someone get better is my biggest benefit," said Dillon.
Dillon recently opened Adonica's Renewal Majestic Spa, at 3601 Ga. Highway 20 in Conyers. The spa offers a full line of massage techniques including Swedish, Ayurvedic, relaxation, deep tissue, therapeutic, Thai yoga, sports, pregnancy, hot stone and trigger point massage.
A massage therapist for nearly 20 years, Dillon earned her accreditation from Baltimore School of Massage, which required more than 500 hours of hands-on practice. A Jamaican native, she is a member of the International Massage Association, and is licensed for massage by the Georgia Licensing Board, and certified to perform ear candling.
Dillon said before she decides on a massage treatment, she discusses with a client where he feels pain and the possible causes for the pain, such as stress, work or recreation.
"I find out what's going on with their body and then recommend the best modality for them," said Dillon.
Dillon said her massage has aided people with migraine headaches, sciatic nerve pain, post-surgery issues, circulation problems and stress reduction.
She said while massage cannot cure all health problems, it can be an effective preventative tool.
"The more they come to see me, the less they have to see a doctor," said Dillon.
Massages typically run $70 and up for an hour, with 30- and 90-minute sessions available. For the next month, she is offering a special, four one-hour massages for $180 or six one-hour sessions for $240. She'll also offer specials each month for people in various professions from teaching to law enforcement.
Dillon said her goal is to expand into a full-service salon with several massage therapists on board and staff to offer hair, nail and facial services. She hopes couples, as well as groups such as bridal parties or birthday parties, take advantage of her spa.
"I want it to be a one-stop shop," said Dillon. "I'm trying to bring it here so you don't have to go all the way downtown (to Atlanta) to get services. We have it here, not just for ladies, but for gentlemen too."
She also plans on having a cafe area where smoothies and herbal teas will be served. Dillon said she wants to promote total body wellness.
"It's all about being healthy," said Dillon.
