Downtown Covington car show set for Sunday

COVINGTON -- Cars of yesterday and today will be on display at the Coming Together 2012 2nd Annual Car Show Festival, taking place from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday on the Square in downtown Covington.

The event is hosted by Lanier Sims, a county commissioner and classic car enthusiast. Sims said he wanted to provide the community with a fun, free event to enjoy again this year.

He estimates that about 100 vehicles will be on display, including classic and custom cars and trucks, and new vehicles spotlighted by Ginn Motor Company.

About half of the vehicle owners are from the Covington/Conyers area, with the remaining coming from other communities and as far away as Augusta and Braselton, Sims said.

Public safety vehicles from local fire departments and law enforcement will also be on display.

Awards will be given for the top 50 cars plus the winners in 10 "best of" categories. The event is free to the public. Registration is $20 the day of the event. Sims said he plans to donate a portion of proceeds to local charities. For more information, contact Sims at 404-787-2852 or CovingtonCarShow@gmail.com.
